I decided to write an article on how to be effective because very often people ask me such questions:
How to be more effective in life
How to be more efficient in business
How to be more effective during the day
How to be more efficient at work
How to become effective in everything
And other similar issues.
In this article I will give general recommendations on effectiveness. I'm sure you will be able to apply them in your field. In the article I give 6 rules for efficiency.
The first rule of effectiveness: always set clear and specific goals.
Each task must have a deadline.
With the help of intuition we make decisions. But thanks to the brain, we make one plan or another. And specificity is very important for our brain. If the brain does not understand what exactly needs to be done and there is no clear definition of the task, then it will not even take on the task. There will simply be a lack of motivation.
For example:
Going to a new level of income (it is not clear what this new level is)
Attract 10 new customers (clear and specific task)
For each task the set term is obligatory. When there is a specific time and date for completion, our brain has limitations. Due to limitations, the brain works more efficiently and quickly.
Second rule of efficiency: Concentrate on only one current task.
Focusing determines the amount of energy invested in one activity or another. Each activity requires a certain amount of energy from you to perform. The more energy you put in in a second, the faster you will get the job done. So focus determines how much energy you put in.
When you focus only on the current task and nothing else exists for you, you are most immersed in the process, then as a result - you find a solution as quickly as possible. And if you get distracted, you do one thing, then another, then a third, you go back to the first, you get tired. Then don't wonder why you feel like a squeezed lemon. Switching attention requires more energy than holding and performing tasks where attention is already located.
Please remember that the consistent execution of the tasks leads to their faster execution compared to the execution of all activities at once. More than that, you will save strength and energy.
When you perform 5 tasks in a row, you switch your attention only 5 times. And if you do 5 tasks at once, you will switch your attention thousands of times. Then don't wonder why it takes so much time and energy.
The ability to focus is a fundamental quality of effective people.
Third rule of effectiveness: the more tasks you have, the more you will do
Our brain evaluates the amount of tasks set and the amount of time spent on those tasks. Accordingly, it determines the amount of time for a task. All of this happens unconsciously, but our brains clearly set time frames for themselves. He remembered how this happened at a control school. The more tasks, the faster he set about solving them. The faster you tried to fulfill them. And when the tasks were few and they were simple, he didn't do anything for 15-20 minutes, and then he started solving them.
Fourth rule of effectiveness: unload your head.
The more tasks you keep in your memory, the less efficient you are, because energy is required to retain information. And instead of directing this energy to creation, you direct it to remember, and then to remember. Record all activities in the diary, or on the phone, on the computer - you decide, the main thing is to do it to be convenient and have quick access to tasks. You will not have to remember which task you need to complete after the current task. This will save you from switching your attention from one task to another. Only after you complete the task, open the diary, put a beak that you have completed the task and go to the next on the list.
Fifth rule of effectiveness: planning saves time and effort.
Before embarking on any tasks, make sure that you have a planned path to the goal. Make sure you plan all day. Often people work, work, and something doesn't happen. And it doesn't happen because they go to the goals at random. Many of them lack clear planning of the path to the goal. They seem to go to the goals at random. Only the goals are set, and the plan to achieve this goal is either absent or created according to the actions or is very vague. I am for the plan to be created and saved. And then, if there is a need to change the plan - to write the new plan again.
Every 10 minutes set aside for planning saves 100 minutes for execution.
To be more effective before you start doing something, plan your work.
Sixth rule of effectiveness: set goals.
Our brain is a tool for achieving goals. There are no goals - the brain does not work. This is one of its main tasks - to achieve goals. Even if you don't know how, in what way, what to do, just set a goal. And let your brain work and think about how to accomplish your goal. Believe me, it was created for that. In less than two days, he will build a path to the goal. I'm not saying it would be the right way. But I know for sure that if you take this path, then, perhaps, the path will change, then it will change again, but sooner or later you will reach the goal. The important thing here is just to start the process of achieving the goal, and then you will see. When the time comes for this later, the brain will figure out what to do.
To be more effective, always set goals! And the more goals - the more effective you will be.
Many people use coaches to help them be more effective at work. The coach helps you set goals, plan the achievement and monitors the process of achieving the goal. One always works more efficiently when one has to report to someone.
Now you understand how to become effective.
